The Scarpa Quattro XT WMN are the next step forward in women's Freeride ski boots!
Scarpa finally made their long awaited come back to the world of freeride boots. Following on from the extremely succesful Freedom SL, Scarpa took their time to come up with a women's specific boot that blurs the lines between ski touring and freeride ski boots, the Scarpa 4-Quattro XT WMN.
We think that one of the biggest steps forward comes with the design and production of a Presta Grip Walk compatible sole unit that looks and feels like a conventional ski touring boot sole, offering confidence when boot packing off your skis and the binding compatibility of Grip Walk (will clip into any modern alpine downhill binding) as well as all pin tech touring, frame touring and hybrid bindings such as Salomon Shift and kingpin.
Along with the superb sole design and binding compatibility the Scarpa 4-Quattro XT WMN weigh a mere 2.7KG per pair making them almost as light as Scarpa's flagship women's touring boots the Gea. They also have an excellent range of motion in walk mode.
Alongside these impressive ski touring boot credentials the Scarpa Quattro WMN boast a very supportive flex index of 110 for the SL and 120 for the XT versions, this flex is also more progressive than in some of their stiffer touring boots and feels lively and responsive to ski.
The combination of ski touring boot uphill performance and freeride boot downhill power makes the Scarpa Quattro XT WMN the most versatile women's ski boots that we have ever sold!
How do the Scarpa 4-Quattro XT WMN Ski boots fit?
The first think to say is that the Quattro XT WMN boots change noticeably through the heat fitting and bedding in, they are low volume so most people find that when they first try them on it feels way too tight often on the top of the instep and peoples first reaction is often 'no chance!' however even by the second time you try them on things are starting to pack down and once the heat fitting of the inner boot has happened things should be starting to feel good. I found that in the first few days of skiing the fit really improved too, so in short don't be worried if they feel too tight to begin with. We have also found the blue Grilamid very easy to stretch and reshape so we can fit a lot of different feet in this boot.
Last season I skied the Quattro XT on lift served days and full days of touring and they are excellent, superb touring function for a freeride boot and excellent ski performance.
The 4-Quattro boots are a good low to medium volume fit offering roughly the same last width as the latest Scarpa Maestrale RS but with less forefoot depth / volume and better heel hold.
The instep height is similar to the Maestrale RS however the overal fit feels more even over the foot with a closer fit around the toes and over the ball of the foot in a nice way. We haven't had any initial obvious fit issues with ankle bones or on the 5th met.
All in all the Scarpa Quattro XT WMN are a fantastic and futuristic women's freeride boot that will make an excellent one boot to do it all for many of our customers. They are as capable ski touring as most of the full touring boots out there, and they give superb skiing performance. The GripWalk sole feels a little odd to walk in with the flat spot on the Anti friction plate but you only notice that when walking, not when skinning.
